This was evident in the abolitionist anti-slavery campaigns and various global pro-equality social movements worldwide that put pressure on nation states and culminated in legislative sanctions against racism and racial discrimination. Enlightenment thoughts and concepts of liberty and equality provided the seeds that inspired the struggles against various injustices. The relative global decline of overtly blatant racism over the last five decades is an outcome of a long history of anti-racism efforts. The chapter discusses the key challenges and progress in tackling racism, evaluates some of the major strategies that have been formulated to date and proposes additional potentially effective strategies. This chapter reviews contemporary anti-racism research, strategies and interventions, with a focus on the state of anti-racism in Australia.
